When a children's room becomes a memory for life

I remember my childhood room so clearly. It was very pink – but not that typical, strong baby pink you often see in girls’ rooms. No, this was a more subdued tone, like dusty rose. A soft vintage shade that created calm and warmth throughout the room.

What if there are pictures from that time? I'll have to ask my parents.

My mother had a bedspread made with matching cushions to match the curtains. Everything was carefully thought out. It was truly children's decor – for real. I had carpet and built-in wardrobes with a chest of drawers, and between them there was an empty space. It became my little universe. My Barbies lived there.

I had eleven Barbies and two Kens, a hair salon, a restaurant – and of course a pink car. That was my favorite. I didn't really play with them much – it was more like an installation. A kind of creative interior design in miniature.

What I loved to play with, however, was my house-building Lego. Not the usual colorful ones, but a more architectural set – perfect for creating rooms, windows and roofs. I kept it in a large tin can. Just the sound of the lid opening was an adventure in itself.

Can you remember which toys you loved the most when you were little?

For me, these memories are like little treasures. Thinking back to my girl's room – the colors, the decor, the play – makes me warm inside.
But the best part was showing it off. Showing off my toys, my buildings, my little Barbie land. It was like a buffet table for the imagination, even though the style was always distinctly pink and girly.

I have my mother to thank for all of this. She not only created a beautiful nursery in pink tones, but a place where I felt safe, seen, and inspired.

And maybe that's exactly what I hope to pass on now – through Lillrum. To help more children get their own room where play, memories and decor come together, and where they can one day, as adults, look back with a smile.

My next collection will be something completely different from my previous two.
It is full of lavender tones – a color that came to me during a meditation, when the instructor used lavender scent in the relaxation exercise. I am already working with the collection in my mind, and have started creating it.
It feels a little mischievous – because it's a color palette that is somewhat foreign to me and what I've previously created.
